We’re back with Summer School 2023!
Every year, Fashion Minority Report collaborates with the Fashion Retail Academy to offer young individuals aged 14-17 the unique and accessible opportunity to enter fashion through their summer school. Thankfully, we are back again for another year! Together we have put together a programme that gives attendees the opportunity to learn about the different avenues of fashion, applying this knowledge to workshops with guidance from industry experts.
When speaking to Mya Mojo, one of last years students, she explained how supported she felt by course leaders Daniel and Deborah to push herself to explore new things, “It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had”.
Striking a perfect balance between theoretical knowledge and practical application, last year students were tasked with the challenge to create a visual merchandise campaign for a Browns store front. Lucy Gabriel, who took part, said it was a way to build her confidence, learning more how to approach fashion briefs, while collaborating with others. “We even looked at how to approach the task with regards to sustainability, which was great because it gave us practical skills we can use outside of this workshop.”
For Mya, the experience gave her a “lightbulb moment”, she explained that “it made me realise I want to take a year out to join Fashion Retail academy to learn more”. Not only this, but she highlighted the rarity of finding such an opportunity without a hefty price tag, stating, “It’s really hard to find opportunities like this that don’t cost 1000 pounds. It really felt like a one in a million opportunity.”
This year, with the support of ASOS, we will bring another round of workshops that will give students the opportunity to learn from ASOS’s own professional network. From exploring how to upcycle to marketing to the final presentation, students are invited to gain experience, knowledge and foster lasting relationships with like-minded individuals that serves as a solid foundation for future collaborations and support within the fashion industry.
